Offline Challenge: Contemplative Courage

So on Sunday we tried out Contemplative prayer where the focus is on being and not doing. In this type of prayer we said that you focus on being still, breathing deeply and God. It's a skill in some ways and can take practice!

This week your challenge is to try this yourself. You may find silence difficult and will need to be courageous. Here's the steps:

  1. Choose 7/8 verses from Scripture. The Psalms are good for this. I'll be posting some examples later in the week.

  2. Find a quiet, peaceful place. This bit may be hard depending on your home but try if possible. Ideally not late at night when you're tired, it will be harder to focus.

  3. Pray and ask God to come to where you are. Tell Him if you want to experience something (e.g. love, peace, joy, encouragement).

  4. Repeat the scriptures several times. I would aim for 5 but this could be as many as you want.

  5. Rest in silence. I would do this for at least 2 minutes but again it can be as long as you want. Focus on God, try to listen to see if He says anything.

Let me know how you get on, what Scripture you used and how you found it for points for the challenge 😁
